C3T contributes in drafting a decree to regulate the advertising of tobacco products and Graphic Health Warnings on tobacco packaging in Cameroon

Three members of the Cameroonian Coalition to Counter Tobacco participated October 04, 2016 at a meeting convened by the Minister of Communication, on a draft decree prohibiting the advertising of tobacco and its products.

Proposed by C3T, the meeting was chaired by the Minister in person. He listened to participants; C3T, MOH and the Ministry of Trade. He then gave instructions regarding a total ban on advertising, and asked Mr. ZOGO, inspector general at the Department of Communication to find the best way to achieve this, taking into account the current legal dispensations of the country.

Meanwhile, on the 5th September 2016, a joint meeting of the MOH and the Ministry of Trade held to revise the text on GHW on tobacco products in Cameroon. Scores of people mainly technicians of the Norms and judicial departments of both ministries, together with representatives of C3T attended the meeting.

The main objective of the meeting was to modify the text so that it conforms to article 11 of the FCTC. Discussions also centered on the images to be adopted for use. The texts and images agreed upon were put at the disposal of the head of the tobacco control unit of the MOH for harmonization.
